The Makkah Hotels Guests Rate Highest (From 250,000+ Reviews)

Fairmont Makkah Clock Royal Tower, steps from Masjid al-Haram

We're not sponsored by any of the hotels below, and none of them paid to be here. This list comes straight out of our own directory: real Google ratings, real review counts, and walk times built from what guests actually report rather than a straight line on a map. Where a walk time says "guests report," that number came from people who made the trip on foot, not from an algorithm guessing distance.

We picked hotels rated 4.2 or higher with at least 1,000 reviews each, so this isn't a handful of five-star ratings from twelve people. Between the eight hotels here, guests have left over 298,000 reviews.

Right on the doorstep of the Haram

These are the hotels where you can pray Fajr and be back in bed within minutes. Guests consistently rate them highest, and the walk times back up why.

  • Start with the numbers: Fairmont Makkah Clock Royal Tower has pulled in almost 120,000 reviews, the most of any hotel on our Makkah list, and holds a 4.7 average. Guests put the walk at about 5 minutes. It's a 5-star tower and a good fit if you've got elderly travellers who'd rather avoid stairs and long corridors.
  • Want the shortest walk of the lot? InterContinental Dar Al Tawhid Makkah guests report just 2 minutes to the mosque, one of the closest 5-star options anywhere in our directory. It rates 4.8 from 36,695 reviews and is flagged elderly-friendly too.
  • Swissotel Al Maqam Makkah ties for the highest rating on this list at 4.8, built on 59,612 reviews. The walk comes in around 5 minutes, and like the two above, it suits elderly guests well.

A short walk, without the tower prices

Slightly further out but still well within a 10-minute walk, and often better value for families booking multiple rooms.

  • Al Marwa Rayhaan By Rotana is worth a look if you're travelling as a mixed-age group. It's flagged as suited to both families and elderly guests, which isn't common on the same hotel. Rated 4.7 from 22,557 reviews, with an estimated 3-minute walk.
  • If you want near-Haram positioning without paying full 5-star rates, look at Hilton Hotel & Convention Jabal Omar Makkah. It's a 4-star property, rated 4.6 from 20,473 reviews, and guests report a 3-minute walk. Also flagged elderly-friendly.
  • Raffles Makkah Palace rounds out this band as the higher-end pick, a 5-star property rated 4.7 from 7,329 reviews, with an estimated 4-minute walk. Flagged for both families and elderly guests.

Free shuttle, further out, still highly rated

Not everyone wants, or can afford, a room within five minutes of the Haram. These two sit further back but run a free shuttle, and guests still rate them well.

  • Doubletree By Hilton Makkah Jabal Omar sits a bit further back, guests report a 7-minute walk, but it also runs a free shuttle, so you're not stuck on foot if it's hot or you're travelling with kids. Rated 4.5 from 9,318 reviews.
  • Voco Makkah has one of the higher review counts on this whole list at 22,577, rated 4.4. The walk itself is around 25 minutes, which sounds like a lot, but the free shuttle is what actually makes this one work. A solid 5-star pick if value matters more to you than proximity.

Rating and review count tell you how a hotel performs over thousands of stays, but your own priorities (budget, mobility, group size) should still decide the shortlist. Browse the full Makkah directory or filter straight to hotels closest to the Haram to compare live prices for your dates.
