The Best Time to Book Umrah Hotels (and When Prices Peak)

Al Marwa Rayhaan by Rotana, Makkah

Hotel prices in Makkah and Madinah swing more than almost any market I know of. The same room can cost several times more on the last ten nights of Ramadan than on a quiet midweek stay in winter. If you want to save money on this trip, the calendar matters more than anything else you'll read below.

The demand calendar

  • Ramadan is the peak of the peak. Demand climbs steadily through the month, then explodes in the last ten nights. Hotels near the Haram are gone months in advance. If Ramadan is the plan, book the moment you can.
  • Hajj season sees Hajj operators take over most of the Makkah hotel market, and Umrah visas are restricted anyway — most independent pilgrims steer clear of this window entirely.
  • December–January and the weeks right after Hajj bring strong demand from families and group tours: call it Umrah high season.
  • Shoulder seasons are the sweet spot. Late winter and the months between the peaks: prices drop, the queue for the Black Stone gets shorter, the weather cools, and there's simply more choice near the Haram.

How far ahead should you book?

For peak dates, Ramadan especially, 3–6 months ahead gives you a realistic shot at good availability near the Haram. Shoulder season is more forgiving: 4–8 weeks usually leaves plenty of choice. Last-minute deals do turn up outside the peak dates, but you're gambling on availability, and the closest hotels always go first.

Use free cancellation as a strategy

Many rates on our platform include free cancellation until a deadline, which opens up a useful trick. Book early to lock in availability, keep an eye on prices, and if something better turns up, rebook and cancel the original for a full refund — provided you act before the deadline. Non-refundable rates look cheaper on paper, but only take one if your dates are genuinely fixed.

Every rate on Near Haramain shows its cancellation deadline before you pay, and we show the time in UTC so there's no confusion about time zones.
